NEW FEATURE: The resources for authors page opened in February with what will be a monthly feature: Tips to Authors February 4, 2011 This is a good day to chat. The daughter "gifted" to me many years ago by a generous Kenyan family, turned middle age today. Wow! She was 10 when her family decided in true cultural generosity to share a vivacious child with a single woman who looked in no hurry to marry. And I wasn't!! This is the month of lovers of all types and I wish all of you happiness now and always, particularly the struggling writers of the world. I hope you are as content with the people you love as I am with the people who let me love them. We are all snowed in here in Oklahoma, but that just gives me working time. Land posting will need to wait a few days. If you are snowed in too, hear the message of nature, pause, and enjoy the moments where you are with whomever you are with. Mattie Dec. 2010 Congratulations to L. D. Wenzel on publishing his book Caught in the Wind (CreateSpace). Now on Amazon. Key words: need literary agent, get literary agent, getting published, why use literary agent, publishing a book
More recently electronic publishing has become a viable trend. UFWLA can also assist authors with the latest means of getting thier work to the public. Thomas Carlyle said that all that mankind has done, thought or been has been is kept in books. To that I would add that all that mankind can be must be put in books, other technology not withstanding. Our goal is to help aspiring writers, new or published, to do just that. For more about our agency see "about us". For submitting a query please see our "submission guidelines." Do you need an agent? The majority of legitimate publishers do not take direct queries from authors. They rely on agents to vet and sort those authors who are ready for publication from those needing more help. In addition unfortunately there are too many 'publishers' out there who will ask authors for money for publishing among other 'scams'. Agents usually can identify those or will before any of their clients work is offered to them. However, self-submission and self-publishing can be done in some instances. We would simply urge the author to research carefully.
